The Clinch River -- crown jewel of Southwest Virginia
I had a lot of fun writing the story -- which ran as a Sunday centerpiece -- about the Clinch River and efforts to promote it as a tourist draw. St. Paul, one of the towns along the river, has already had success with its Spearhead Trails efforts. ATVs can be seen driving through town on a regular basis, and Terri Anne Funk's Clinch River Adventures tubing and canoe rental service is quickly becoming a must-do activity in the area. And, locals are still pushing the Virginia General Assembly to make the area a state park.
