Craft beer is tapping the market in Southwest Virginia
Rough week last week -- I spent most of it touring, and then writing about, craft beers. *Sigh* Everyone has to suck it up and take one for the team sometimes...
For real, though, one of the photographers and I always end up covering breweries and distilleries together. We spent last week talking to the microbrewers in Bristol about the recent rise in breweries here, and to tourism and economic development folks about what the benefits of craft beer could be to the region as a whole -- aside from bringing in tasty beverages, of course.
The brewery in the photo above, Studio Brew, currently operates in nearby Kingsport, Tennessee, and plans to open a larger facility in Bristol, Virginia, next spring. Owner Erich Allen invited us in for some samples and a tour of his brewery.
And today, this story ran in the Bristol Herald Courier.
